About me

My name’s Florence Piquemal. By the way, my surname, “Piquemal”, is pronounced something like “Peek-Maal”, in case you are trying to say it in your head 🙂 I’m a French freelance translator specialised in translating, subtitling and revising technical, scientific, editorial and marketing content from English and German. As an expert of the French language, I also offer proofreadingediting and transcribing services for texts written in French. After an initial 5 years’ experience in translation, followed by 10 years as a teacher, I have now been working again as a translator for 10 years, a profession I practise with passion and high standards.

I grew up in a small town in south-west France, where I completed a science baccalaureate. Passionate about foreign languages, I studied English and German at the university of Toulouse, France, and lived one year in Mannheim, Germany, and one year in Brighton, UK, while I was a student. Before I graduated as a translator in 2000, I spent a few years making a living with different kinds of jobs and travelling around the world. That’s how I studied history of art in Italy during a semester, worked as a secretary in a pharmaceutical company and taught French in Japan during three months!

Back in the “ville rose” as Toulouse is known, and after I completed my master’s degree in translation, I worked for five years for companies in the aeronautical sector, which has a strong presence in my region. As I also have a passion for children and education, I turned to teaching in 2006 and worked as a primary school teacher during ten years. During this period, I added to my qualifications a master’s degree in language sciences with a focus on teaching French as a foreign language. In 2015, I decided to get back to translation and started as a freelancer.

Since then, I’ve been happily offering my language and writing skills to companies and organisations in France and elsewhere. I translate various types of contents, revise translations, correct French documents, subtitle audiovisual productions and transcribe audio and video files.
